with layer3 switch to implement VLAN without the need of router, isn&#039;t that reduce the security level as router does provide firewall and packet filtering of which layer3 switch does not. I agree that performance can greatly be achieved, but the purpose of segmenting network (VLAN) mainly is to reduce broadcast rate and SECURITY purpose, 
with layer3 switch, we can improve its performance, but how about security?
