Thanks for the sim but I was wondering what types of problems some are having? The app starts fine but when you use it, it crashes a lot during console.

In order to use the dynamips software, you need to have the desired Cisco IOS image on-hand. To get this, you will need to go through Cisco.com or authorized reseller. Or, if you have access to Cisco devices, you could pull a copy of the IOS off of the router. I'm not sure of the legalities but technically speaking it is possible.

Hi mate

I am just starting out on networking and your article gave me the motivation to move forth. I have managed, without any proper training, to design and implement a medium LAN for my company, comprising of powerful servers, pcs and printers. I am also working on avocent workstations and it really is an awesome learning curve for me. My only problem is I didnt, or rather cannot implement security on my LAN, hence, the idea of a free simulator seem very appealing. I downloaded the software, but it tells me i have to have an image of the IOS software, which I have no idea where I am going to get. Is it downloadable for the internet, or need I buy it and the get an iso creating software to create the iso? I really need to practice with the out of this world gift, as I am preparing for my ccna exams come end of november. Once again, thanks a lot mate for the awfully informing articles which are the essence of this site. keep up the good work. Many thanks
